Hi all,

I'm trying to test out user notifications via samples/dialog but I can't seem to see them going via the notifications center. Just a screen pop up.

All I'm doing is building that demo. No actual code of my own yet. Wxwidgets 3.0.3

Make logs:

What should I expect?

Thanks.

Notification center-based implementation is only available in 3.1.0, so
you have to upgrade or, if you really, really can't do it, try to backport
the relevant commits (bf5e403a684fea1521b7b9960d8200fa5a461288 and probably
more) to 3.0 branch. I'd strongly recommend upgrading.

VZ

No problem and thanks. I've not started yet anyway.

No luck. They only show as a popup if generic is selected. Nothing
works without:

Maybe to clear a few things up:
Generic means not to use the native notifications of the operating system.

On OSX native notifications only pop up on screen when the application is in background, that's why the sample sits at "showing notifcation" you should bring another application to the front after pressing the button.

Does this mean that Xcode doing something "under the hood"?
I'm not in front of my Mac, but IIRC, after compilation the notification message
shows up independently of whether Xcode or something else is in front.

Or maybe its not a notification at all?

Thank you.

Re: Fwd: macOS Sierra 10.12.5 and samples/dialog for user notifications

TcT-2
Xcode has 2 different kinds of notifications:
1. native when in background (using notification center)
2. The square "Build succeded" (with icon)

All I'm doing is a standard ./configure && make. Then make I'm samples/dialogs

Then running dialogs demo I think select the automatic notification and switch to another window. Nothing happens unless I select t generic type.

Thanks.

Have a look at this. Not HD quality, but set it at the max of 480 and
you'll see. No notifications :-(

So after trying lots of things, including:

1. Upgrading Xcode and cli tools to latest via App store
2. compiling with clang and gcc
3. Using various configure options, final one being:

./configure --with-osx_cocoa --with-macosx-version-min=10.12
--with-macosx-sdk=/Applications/Xcode.app/Contents/Developer/Platforms/MacOSX.platform/Developer/SDKs/MacOSX10.12.sdk
--disable-mediactrl --enable-notifmsg

4. Running samples/dialogs and then dialogs binary
5. Reading tons of source code and comparing what's in 3.1.0 with
http://trac.wxwidgets.org/ticket/16642
6. Adding ShowStatus() debugs in dialogs.cpp

The actual problem was that I needed to be running the dialogs binary
inside dialogs.app directory as that's a normal OS X/macOS app, even
though the binaries are the same. I was doing this on the cli, that's
why. If I used Finder, then dialogs.app shows up like an app normally
does and I just click it (not showing the .app extension).

Lots of time wasted, but enjoyable and I know it works now.

Thanks.
